Three off-duty policeman were arrested for drunk driving over the weekend in Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said.
Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said today one of the men, a 41-year-old captain, allegedly tried to threaten the police officers doing the stop-and-search operation with his police-issue firearm. The gun was confiscated.
The other policemen arrested were an inspector, 35, and a constable, 31.
A total of 112 other people were also arrested for drunk driving during the operation. All the arrested would appear in court on Monday.
