The pilot of a light aircraft was lucky to have escaped without injury when a landing went awry at the Margate Airfield on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast this morning.
While aviation experts will be able to provide detailed insight on what went wrong, it is thought that upon landing, the aircraft left the runway and ploughed through a grassed area before slamming into a perimeter fence.
Netcare 911 Paramedics were called to the scene and on arrival found the plane wedged against the fence. The pilot sustained minor injuries and declined treatment and transport to hospital.
