OUTsurance was awarded the Short Term Insurance Ombudsman’s esteemed Isabel Jones Ukusizana Award at a presentation in Johannesburg on 18 February 2010.
In 2007 the Ombudsman introduced this award to recognise the efforts of short-term insurance companies who – in the true spirit of “ukusizana” (“working hand in hand”) – show outstanding commitment to efficiency, service excellence, as well as fairness in claims and complaints resolution.
OUTsurance is clearly taking its commitment to these principles very seriously. In fact, OUTsurance was the first-ever short-term insurance company to have won this award and the first company to have won it twice. In 2007, OUTsurance also walked away with being awarded third place.
Trevor Devitt, Head of Communications at OUTsurance commented that “it’s a tremendous achievement to have received this award for the second time. It certainly underlines OUTsurance’s commitment to service excellence and our approach to fairness in claims settlements and complaints resolution.”
Aside from the recognition, the winner also receives the floating trophy which is a bronze art work sculpted by KwaZulu-Natal artist, Sarah Richards. The statue depicts an ox together with two farm workers, ploughing a field. One worker is guiding the ox from the front with another guiding it from behind – clearly symbolising the importance of co-operation and teamwork to ultimately achieve a the desired end result.
Devitt concludes by saying that “OUTsurance’s commitment to fair claims settlement is as great as ever. We will continue to work closely with the Office of the Ombudsman in the year ahead to make sure that all claims are dealt with as fairly and efficiently as possible.”
