Pretoria says it will look after fans travelling to tomorrow’s match between Bafana Bafana and Uruguay tomorrow.
A sea of fans, mostly decked in green and yellow, is expected in Pretoria tomorrow when Bafana Bafana lock horns with Uruguay in their second World Cup match encounter, at Loftus Versfeld.
And, the city is confident that the fans will experience a “hassle-free park-and-ride and park-and-walk system.”
There has been an outcry from soccer fans regarding the congestion at some park-and-ride facilities which prolonged the time taken getting in and out of stadia.
2010 unit CEO, Godfrey Nkwane, urged people to arrive on time at park-and-ride facilities. “We are also kindly appealing to the spectators to get to the park-and-rides very early so that we can get you there on time. Just come early and let’s keep the good spirit and also be patient with us as we try to load you as quickly as possible to take you back to the park-and -ride after the game,” said Nkwane.
There will be two park-and-ride facilities and one park-and-walk facility. The park-and-ride by train would operate from the Pretoria station, with fans parking at Salvokop and travelling to the Rissik station by a special soccer train.
“Both the parking and the shuttles at the park-and-rides are free. Fans must simply bring their match ticket,” said Nkwane.
Meanwhile, thousands of fans are expected to crowd the FIFA Fan Fest in Centurion and the public viewing areas at the Giant stadium in Soshanguve and Temba sports ground in Hammanskraal, where the match will be televised live on big screens. – BuaNews
