Severe hailstorms in Limpopo damaged houses and killed livestock on Sunday, the provincial Disaster Management Centre said.
“We had several reports from people saying that their homes were damaged and livestock like chickens were killed. A few dogs and cats were also killed in the storm yesterday [Sunday] evening,” centre spokesperson Clayson Monyela said on Monday.
Monyela said a few car windscreens had also been shattered as people drove through the storm.
The storm affected the areas of Tzaneen, Tubatse [Burgersfort] and Polokwane.
The centre warned people in the province to be vigilant of extreme weather conditions, including above average rainfall and further hailstorms.
Vigilance was also required for veld fires, started by cigarette stumps discarded in bushes during extreme hot and dry weather conditions.
People could report any weather disaster, including veld fires, to the disaster management centre on the toll-free number 0800 222111.
