Four people have been killed on Eastern Cape roads in three separate motor vehicle accidents. Two accidents occurred between Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen. In the first one, two people were killed in a head-on collision about 15 km outside Aberdeen.
In the other accident on the same road, one person died and three were seriously injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle about 20km from Aberdeen. The third accident happened on the R408 between Ngcobo and Dutwya, when a vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a guard rail. A passenger was killed and the driver is in a critical condition in hospital.
The cause of the accidents is still being investigated by police and traffic authorities. In another crash, police yesterday refused to confirm whether the person involved in a car crash in Wynberg in the Cape Peninsula early yesterday morning was Proteas star batsman, Jacques Kallis.
Reports said Kallis crashed his luxury vehicle through a gate of a private residence. Police spokesperson November Filander said they were not at liberty to implicate any person by name. But the Proteas camp has announced that Kallis will be fit to play in the second test against India, following his accident.
