In the first accident, two people were serious injured and a third sustained minor to moderate injuries after two vehicles collided on Kassier Road in Hillcrest. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the two vehicles in the middle of the road. Both drivers were in a serious condition. The one female driver was entrapped and needed to be extricated from the vehicle by means of the Jaws of Life by the Gillets Fire Department. Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed on the patient while the extrication was taking place. All patients were stabilised on scene and transported to Life Entabeni Hospital for further medical care.
In another two separate accidents, six taxis and a light motor vehicle were involved in a collision leaving thirty six commuters injured. The first accident was on Umgeni Road outside the Umgeni train station. Four taxis were involved in the collision. It is unclear what transpired but three lanes of the four lane road were closed because of the accident. Four people sustained serious injuries while another twenty one commuter sustained minor to moderate injuries. The driver of one of the taxis had to be extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life.
In the second accident, two taxis and a light motor vehicle collided on the M13 Durban bound on Fields Hill. Eleven people, of which two were in a serious condition and nine sustained minor injuries. All patients were stabilised on the scene and transported to various hospitals in the greater Durban area.
A pedestrian is in a serious condition after been knocked down in Church Street, Pietermaritzburg this morning. The patient is a female in her late twenties and was knocked down by a taxi. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the woman lying in the middle of the road and in severe pain. She had suffered a possible broken leg and was complaining of pains to her neck and back. Paramedics placed the patient on a specialised board before transporting her to Northdale Hospital for further medical care.
In the last accident, two vehicles were involved in a collision on Edendale Road near Taylors Hault. Four people were injured of which two were in a serious condition and another two sustained minor abrasions. It is unclear who was at fault but all necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the incident further.
