We tend to focus a lot on the “bad” on our roads and how the carnage continues! It is often depressing to share only the crashes and reports of potholes and traffic lights not working etc. Sometimes we however also experience the exciting thought and a reminder of what is possible when we all work together in sharing information and in addressing an issue that concerns us all!
I would like to share one such example of a query received and how fast we were able to respond to the person who made the query:

Subject: Who does one address a complaint to regarding roadworks, out of order robots etc?

Hi there
I am sure this is not the right forum to address this issue but I thought I would give it a shot and if you can’t help me, then you could possibly point me in the right direction. I live in an area where there are roadworks under-way but very little action on site. As a result of this, the robots in the surrounding areas are not operational and have been this way for almost months now. It is an absolute joke that people just need to accept the lack of effort by the construction company and the robot malfunctioning negligence. Please could you help me with a contact person to express my discontent.
Thank you!

Hi Johan
Thank you for your prompt response. The exact location of the roadworks is along the William Nicol between Dainfern and Fourways Mall and the Broadacres Drive and William Nicol robots and those by the Leaping Frog along William Nicol have been out for months now.
Thank you again!

Good Day Sir
The complainant is stating that road works are taking place which indeed is true. JRA is aware of the signals not working whilst the construction is under-way. Points man will be on duty.

Hi all
Thank you so much for your speedy responses yesterday – I was so impressed I even tweeted about you!
Thank you and I look forward to seeing pointsmen on duty more often than not.
Have a fantastic long weekend!
This may be one small example – but it is enough to confirm that effective service delivery and Private Public Partnerships can make a contribution towards addressing our concerns and enhanced road safety in South Africa! A word of appreciation to those at the RTMC and the Johannesburg Roads Agency for the speedy responses received!
