In November 2013 the National Investigation Unit arrested a SANDF member, Tshepo Ledwaba in the Brooklyn area after he was found in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, Ford ST. The vehicle was hijacked in Lyttelton on September 2013.
Ledwaba was charged with possession of a hi-jacked motor vehicle, possession of a Metro police bullet proof and possession of unlicensed firearm and he appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court where he was released on bail.
On 2 June 2014 Ledwaba was again arrested while he and his accomplice, an Air Force member, Lucas Mabeko attempted to hi-jack a vehicle in Sandton. They were both charged with attempted hi-jacking, possession of unlicensed firearm and impersonating police officer.
At the time of the alleged offense, Ledwaba was wearing a SAPS reflector jacket and a SAPS baseball cap and Mabeko was wearing a metro reflector jacket and a metro police baseball cap and they had a flashing blue light on the BMW they were driving.
Ledwaba and Mabeko were both denied bail on 14 June 2014. They are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 8 August 2014 on the Sandton charges.
In the meantime, Ledwaba appeared in the Pretoria court today on the Brooklyn case and he will again appear in Pretoria court on 3 and 4 December 2014 for trial.
