Mitchell’s Plain SAPS members arrested two suspects in two separate incidence for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition in Tafelsig and Eastridge respectively. These two successes are reflected below:
Yesterday morning at about 10:30 Mitchells Plain Police arrested a 18 year old man for possession of a prohibited (serial number removed) firearm after receiving information that a firearm was kept in a house in Sharon Street, Tafelsig. Upon the members arrival in the street they noticed a suspicious looking man standing on an open filed. When our members approached the suspect he ran away, but they managed to apprehend the suspect in a wendy house in Sharon Street. The members confiscated a .38 calibre pistol with 2 live rounds. The suspect will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate Court on Monday (2014-09-29)on the related charges.
Sterling work by Mitchells Plain Designated Liquor Officers led to arrest of an armed robbery and attempted murder suspect. At about 13:20 our members were doing a routine compliance inspection when they responded to a shooting incident in Baobab Street, Eastridge. The members noticed the suspect and they pursuit him on foot. The suspect was apprehended on an open field near Tambotie Street, Eastridge. Our members confiscated a 9mm pistol with 8 live rounds. The suspect aged 17 years old will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate Court on Monday (2014-09-29) on charges relating robbery, attempted murder and possession of licensed firearm and ammunition.
These successes is a reflection of the good co-operation that exists between the community of Mitchells Plain and the South African Police Service. The Mitchells Plain police management want to thank the various street committees and sector sub forums of Mitchells Plain who joined the South African Police Service in combating crime, further we urge the community to remain vigilant and to contact their respective Sector Commanders with information.
