Just after 2pm Rescue Care paramedics were alerted to the serious accident in Dunkeld Road Resevoir Hills. On arrival they could not even see the vehicle from the house. Paramedics took all their equipment and made their way down to the wreckage which was about 150 – 200 metres down a steep bank to find a single vehicle against a tree. Two passengers were found out of the vehicles with serious injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was used to stabilize the two before they could be moved. In a joint rescue effort between services a specialized rope system was put in place and a special basket was lowered to the injured two. Once they had been secured in the rescue basket the patients were pulled to safety by rescuers.
Once at the top of the embankment the patients were loaded into ambulances and transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required.
At this stage it is unclear what caused the single vehicle to lose control and go down the steep embankment however SAPS were on scene and will be investigating further.
