Police in East London managed to close in on three dagga smugglers and seized 36 kilograms of dagga as they were passing through East London to Port Elizabeth on 01 December 2014.
After an intelligence operation, the Hawks in East London managed to intercept a truck at about 06:30 in Arcadia, transporting steel from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth. Upon accosting the three occupants of the truck, police questioned them and in the process recovered three bags on the roof of the truck behind the scoop belonging to them. On requesting the men to open the bags police recovered 36 kilograms of dagga with an estimated street value of R144 000-00.
Police recovered the compressed dagga and is of the opinion that the dagga was from a neighbouring state as it was compact and vacuum sealed. The men was arrested and charged for dealing in dagga. All three suspects are due to appear in the East London Magistrates’’ Court tomorrow on a charge of dealing in dagga.
