Six people were injured following an accident on the N12 Nelson Mandela Drive in Vyfhoek, Potchefstroom yesterday afternoon.
Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that two motor vehicles were involved in a side impact accident. Both vehicles came to a standstill next to the roadway. A woman travelling in one of the vehicles were entrapped in the vehicle and upon assessment, paramedics found that she had sustained critical injuries. The woman was treated at the scene, carefully extricated from the vehicle, placed on a trauma board and transported to hospital for the urgent medical care that she required.
Five people travelling in the other vehicles sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious. The injured patients were also treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.
Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
