Five people were injured, one critically so, after a taxi and a Jeep collided head – on along Old Main Road in Hillcrest. Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics and their rescue unit arrived at the scene and found some of the injured still trapped in the wreckage. While firemen and the Netcare rescue officer used the Jaws of Life to free the wounded from the twisted frame of the vehicle, paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise them.
After the patients were extricated and skilfully immobilised by the medics, they transported them to various hospitals for the care that they required.
