Members from Border Police based at Cape Town International Airport, established that parcels from an individual was being mailed to various international destinations. They tested one of the parcels and found it to contain traces of Heroin.
An investigation was then conducted by the Provincial Drug Unit who held back all the parcels and had one analysed by specialists, who found it to contain an illegal substance similar to Heroin.
This morning, Thursday 20 August at 10:00, an integrated operation was conducted the Western Cape Provincial Drug Unit, Metro Police, SARS Customs, DTI and medicine control authority officials at a residential estate in Durbanville where an illegal medicine manufacturing facility was uncovered. Numerous items of equipment, glass tubes and containers, as well as a variety of chemicals were found in two rooms on the premises.
A 55-year-old man, originally from Holland, was arrested and is to appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Monday 24 August.
