A 27-year-old Inanda resident who was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol was run over while attempting to cross Todd Street in Verulam a short while ago.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by passing motorists reporting a woman lying in the center of the road. Upon arrival, it was established that the pedestrian and a friend had walked to Verulam from Phoenix after a night of partying. The two were on their way to the Inanda taxi rank when she was run over by a Hyundai i10. According to the driver of the vehicle, the pedestrian was looking in the opposite direction when she attempted to cross the road.
She sustained a suspected fracture to her right leg and was transported to Osindisweni Hospital by ambulance.
