On Saturday afternoon 16 May 2009, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports that a building contractor had fallen approximately 10 metres from scaffolding at a construction site on land between New Market and Malibongwe roads in the industrial area of NorthRiding, not far from KyaSands, in the outlying Randburg area.

It was alleged that the victim was working on top of the scaffolding and building tall concrete pillars (as seen in the attached pictures) at the time of the incident. The victim appeared to have landed on his right side and was attended to by an advanced life support paramedic at the scene. He had sustained fairly serious injuries and analgesic medication was administered to reduced the amount of pain that he was experiencing. The 23 year old male victim had sustained a fracture to his right upper arm as well as his right clavicle, and less serious injuries to his right upper leg and hip.

Fortunately the victim worked for a registered company and his occupation injury whilst on duty afforded him the best in medical care. He was stabilised at the scene and was transported by a Netcare 911 ambulance to the Fourways private hospital for further assessment and treatment.
