At approximately 07h20 on Wednesday morning 13 May 2009, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a very serious pedestrian collision on the N14 highway travelling towards Krugersdorp between the R511 and R512 offramps, in the outlying Randburg area.
Arriving paramedics found the male victim lying in the emergency lane of the highway. The victims friends alleged that a group of them were walking in the emergency lane when the victim was struck from behind by the car. The victim was not positively identified and paramedics were told that he was 31 years old. The victim had sustained severe head and chest injuries and died of his injuries at the scene.
The male driver of the car was not injured and gave a statement to police at the scene.
Emergency vehicles are still at the scene and motorists travelling on the N14 are advised to approach the area with caution. This incident was attended to by Netcare 911, Metro Police and the SAPS.
