Legendary explorer Kingsley Holgate set off earlier today on an expedition through southern Africa to promote the 2010 Soccer World Cup and to continue his humanitarian work.
The expedition named Boundless Southern Africa (BSA), will promote the soccer spectacle, help upgrade soccer fields and do much needed humanitarian work.
The humanitarian work will include:
– Distributing One Net One Life mosquito nets
– Donating mobile libraries to rural schools
– Providing malaria prevention education to pregnant mothers and children under the age of 5 in high risk malaria areas
– The ‘Rite to Sight’ campaign in which spectacles are distributed to the poor sighted
Holgate and his crew have embarked on an epic journey across nine Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries, seven Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA), two oceans, 30 national parks and nature reserves.
These include:
– Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park
– Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
– Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area
– Limpopo-Shashe Transfrontier Park
– Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park
– Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area
– Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area
The expedition will end on August 19 at the mouth of the Orange River in South Africa.
