On Friday the Arrive Alive website received an interesting request for assistance. I would like to quote:

“Good day,

I would like to find out if it is possible to sponsor the installation of fixed trap cameras at a desired location? We have an enforced speed limit of 40km/h. The local traffic authority has done measurements that show that 75% of vehicles travel above 51km/h. How can we assist the local government to fix this?

thanks
Carl”

It is confirmation that not everyone is against speed enforcement all of the time! Most South Africans are in favour of speed enforcement at appropriate locations where speeding road users pose a threat to the safety of others – especially near schools and public gatherings such as sporting events etc.

Criticism of speed enforcement is mostly at those locations where it appears to be more of a “trap” and where the speed does not pose a significant threat.

The above request has been forwarded to Enforcement at the RTMC
