Tragic double shooting leaves two dead

This afternoon Tuesday 12 May 2009, Netcare 911 paramedics attended to two separate shooting incidents that occurred minutes apart. The two incidents appeared to be linked and bystanders alleged that the two victims were married.

The first incident occurred at approximately 16h44 at a residential complex in Falcon street in Meyersdal in Alberton. Eye witnesses alleged that the lady victim was shot by her husband before he fled the scene. Paramedics found the victim in the common property car parking area, she had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene by the paramedics. She was 42 years old. A Netcare 911 trauma a councillor was at the scene to attend to one of the children who had seen the shooting. There was also a clinical psychologist who lives in the complex who offered to assist with the couples other children.

Minutes later, paramedics responded to an address that was believed to be that of the husbands house in Hantamberg street in Glenvista. Paramedics and police arrived to find that the male patient appeared to have shot himself in the chest in his garage. The 46 year old victim was declared dead by the same Netcare 911 paramedic who had attended to the first victim.

These shootings were attended to by Netcare 911 and the SAPS.

Even though this is not a vehicle crash, it does emphasize the need for trauma counselling after trauma from marital disputes, road accidents etc
