Today will be noted in history books as the date of the inauguration of the newly elected President – President Jacob Zuma. This inauguration has captured the attention of many more than ordinary citizens and the local media and has an impact far beyond our borders.

I will refrain from making any political commentary on this Blog, but would like to comment on something that I believe might be important for road safety as well. In church last Sunday the message was clear – “We should judge less and pray more!”

Most of us stood in line during the national elections and we all had the opportunity to elect the political party of choice. This democratic process has lead to election of Jacob Zuma as President of South Africa. This is a fact – and something that all South Africans have to accept. Whether this is the leader you voted for or not – now is the time to pray for this leader!

We need to pray for wisdom and for strong leadership, for wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong and for strength to fight those challenges from corrupt individuals who might seek favour in filling their own pockets instead of contributing to the greater good for all South Africans!

Road Safety requires that the elected leaders in cabinet and government departments work hard at implementing road safety strategies. They will engage in public private partnerships and we pray that our elected leaders will be committed to removing corruption and do everything humanly possible to reduce road fatalities!

The Arrive Alive website and the Road Safety Blog would like to extend a word of congratulations to our elected president and the other elected leaders. May this new phase in the history of South Africa be one of true devotion and commitment to the interests of all South Africans!!
