Young Mr Delivery driver killed in high impact Northgate smash

At approximately 21h51 on Sunday night 17 May 2009, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a very serious collision at the intersection of Aureole and Northumberland roads in Northriding, not too far from the Northgate mall.

Paramedics arrived on scene to find that two cars had been involved in the collision, the Mercedes landed off the road up against a street lamp pole and the Opel came to rest in the middle of the road, its engine and gear box were ripped out following the high impact and were found approximately 90 metres away from the point of impact. The Mercedes had sustained frontal damage and the male driver was treated for spinal injuries and was transported by Netcare 911 to the Fourways hospital for further assessment and treatment, he was in a stable condition.

The Opel appeared to have been “T-boned” on the passenger side and sustained massive damage. The driver appeared to have died on impact. Two of his work supervisors were at the scene and identified him as a 21 year old driver who worked for a food delivery service in the area.Fire fighters had to use the “jaws of life” to free his body from the wreck.
The Metro Polices specialist Accident Investigation Unit were at the scene to investigate the incident.
