At approximately 20h44 on Friday night 12 June 2009, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of an armed robbery and shooting at a very popular international hamburger outlet in the Southgate Value Mart near Rifle Range road, south of Johannesburg.
Patrons alleged that the off duty police officer was at the restaurant with his family when a large gang attacked the popular fast food outlet.
The 44 year old male victim was attended to by an advanced life support paramedic and analgesic medication was administered to reduce the amount of pain that the victim was experiencing. He had been shot in the middle of his back and had sustained severe injuries.
The Netcare 911 helicopter and flight doctor were called to the scene and the officer was airlifted to the Trauma Unit at the Netcare Milpark Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
This incident was attended to by Netcare 911 and a strong police contingent.
