Baby dies after being found floating in swimming pool, Sandton

At approximately 17h00 on Sunday 14 June 2009, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports that a baby had drowned in a swimming pool at a house in Paulshof, north of Johannesburg.

Paramedics were told that the baby was less than one year old and had been found floating in the pool. The advanced life support paramedic attended to the baby inside the house, tragically there were no signs of life and there was nothing that the paramedics could do to save the baby who was then declared dead at the scene.

As with many drownings, the circumstances surrounding the incident were not clear and the SAPS were called to the scene.

Our statistics show that the number of drownings in Gauteng decrease during the winter months, however parents and child minders are urged to keep a watchful eye on children especially around unprotected swimming pools and other water hazards.
