This morning just after 07h00 the emergency services rushed to the Royal hotel. On arrival they found smoke bellowing out of the basement at the rear of the hotel.

The fire department and staff from the hotel evacuated all the people from their rooms. Among them was a large contingency of British lion supporters – non of them sustained any injuries. Paramedics had their hands full as 12 staff members sustained smoke inhalation -11 of them were transported by Netcare to the St Augustine’s hospital for further treatment.
