Do you know where your truck driver has his rest stop?

Last week the Arrive Alive website received a request for info which read “Can you please assist me. I am looking for places where my drivers can rest near to Pietermaritzburg in KZN?”

We could provide a response from the KZN Traffic Inspectorate:

“In Pietermaritzburg itself I am not aware of any resting facilities. But close to Pietermaritzburg at Cato Ridge which is about 28 kilometres outside PMB on the Durban side there is a truck stop and on the Johannesburg side at Mooi River which is about 70 kilometres away there also a truck stop. Both these facilities have secure and controlled entrances and exits with bathing, ablution and meal facilities.”

We also investigated other rest stop options and found that there are 7 truck stops between Johannesburg and Durban. Highway Junction in Harrismith is world standard with a sound reputation for safety, service and hygiene at R80 per truck per night. Drivers rooms are also available at a drivers village inside the security area with a clean and secure drivers club house.

Other truck stops are at Villiers, Warden, Harrismith, Tugela, Mooi River, and Marianne Hill.

It is very important that fleet owners monitor the movement of their vehicles and where their drivers decide to stop for the night. We have found a photo of some truck drivers stopping overnight next to a tavern in Harrismith – and they will most probably not be having a glass of milk for the night…!
