We are pleased to see growing enthusiasm as we approach the start of the Confederations Cup. In Bloemfontein I find flags hanging from street poles and new signage next to the road directing touring buses to the stadium and bus stops.

Last month we decided that the Arrive Alive website should give special attention to our sports spectators and added a new section of content to the Arrive Alive website titled “ Spectator Survival Guide and Safety on the Road to Sports Stadiums”.

We are pleased to find that the Department of Transport also developed a special website dedicated to the travel needs of our football spectators. I would like to quote from the “Finding Your Way FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 Website”:

“The South African National Department of Transport has taken an initiative to ensure that you find your way from when you enter the country to different host cities and eventually to the stadiums. We undertake to inform you on the various transport means you can use to access the stadiums and enjoy the games. From air travel to road travel, car hire and charter to shuttle services and park & ride facilities – you will know about it all right here.”

May our foreign travellers and sports enthusiasts benefit from the safety information provided by the Arrive Alive road safety website and the “Find Your Way” website. We will commit ourselves to sharing road safety information and emergency numbers on the mobile website at Arrive Alive.mobi as well as the Road Safety Blog.

We wish all our sports enthusiasts/ fans a safe and enjoyable Confederations Cup 2009!
