Unarmed neighbourhood watch patroller shot and killed, 2nd patroller also shot

 

 

 

 

At approximately 04h30 on Saturday morning 13 June 2009, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a shooting in extension 6 of the Diepsloot informal settelment, north of Fourways.

It was alleged at the scene that the unarmed volunteer members of the Community Policing Forum had been attacked by an unknown number of gunmen near the end of their patrol shift. A 42 year old man had been shot in his left foot, he was in a stable condition and was transported by ambulance to the Tembisa hospital for further assessment and treatment. Sadly the other man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died of his injuries at the scene. It was alleged that he was the chairperson of the Community Policing Forum and that he was shot while trying to escape from his attackers.

This incident was attended to by Netcare 911 and the SAPS.
