During the last 6 years I have been fortunate to have been involved in only one accident – and this was without injury to me or the driver of the other vehicle. But what if this was not the case and we needed urgent medical assistance? Would there have been available, effective and swift response?

This morning I reported an accident to the SAPS at 7:35am and requested an ambulance. They said they would send one. After an hour there was still no sign of the SAPS or an ambulance, this is after I had phoned them again and again.
I was then advised to phone 082911, which I did and the Netcare unit responded within 15 minutes. I would like to thank you for your assistance and the short response time.
You have been of a great help to me and the other victim.
This blog post is not criticism toward the SAPS or the medical response from the Department of Health, but rather a word of appreciation to private healthcare companies and medical response teams. This is also not a focus on medical schemes, their benefits and pricing – but merely a reflection on the importance of having private medical assistance available.
Politicians love to use the words “checks and balances” and “accountability”. It is a fact that private companies who have to survive in tough economic conditions are dependent on delivering quality services. These emergency medical companies have the best measures in place to ensure swift emergency medical response by well qualified paramedics and medical doctors.
