Why the heck have a needle stuck in my arm?!

This morning I received my vampire sms – the request from the South African National Blood Services to donate blood. The message reads [translated from Afrikaans]:”Take a moment to share your warmth this winter…We need 30 units at Victorian…Your blood saves lives”

I tried to convince 2 of my road safety friends to join me on the donation journey – but they sadly declined with the following excuses:

C – Too afraid of needles even though his girlfriend is a regular donor!
P – Too afraid that his alcohol drenched blood stream might give the recipient a hangover!

I embarked on my lonesome journey to make my 59th donation and attempted to answer the above question. While donating I found the answer in a pamphlet titled “What is in it for me?”.

The Answer is simple:

“You give little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give” Khalil Gibran
