It is OK to wave the Springbok flag in Victory!

flag

The Springboks are the Number 1 Rugby Team in the Whole Wide World! …point …end of story!! Last weekend I was one of the supporters wearing the Springbok jersey to the game in Bloemfontein. I did not have a flag with me, was not wearing body paint or over the limit with alcohol but enjoyed every minute before, during and after the game!

Since then I have read in the newspapers and online about the possible reason for the slow ticket sales and some silly article titled “Bok actions costing us” with reference to “less than full” stadium expected in Durban…Or we read about some arse mentioning the dreaded quota system…

Could we please just get a grip – and be allowed to appreciate the taste of victory and the Number 1 position in world rugby! Let us for a few moments stop to criticize the coach and team on how we could have done better and who SHOULD be the flyhalf and who is the better player etc.. .There is no such thing as the perfect game, the perfect player or the perfect coach! Most Springbok rugby supporters do not care if the Springbok coach is white, pink or purple, whether he is fluent in Afrikaans, English or Chinese or whether he is loved or hated by the English, Afrikaans or Bulgarian media! All we want to see is a Springbok victory!!

Without an attempt to be technical or clever I would like to keep it simple or to quote the TV ad – to keep it real! If a sister, daughter or cousin gets married to some bloke we don’t care if he is the Number 1 guy in the world for her, we are simply happy. Why are we happy? We are happy because she is happy!

Springbok Rugby Supporters are, to translate the words of a series on TV, married to Springbok Rugby!! We should be allowed to be happy – because we are married to the Number 1 Team in World Rugby!! The Springbok players are happy to have beaten the All Blacks – to be announced as the Number 1 Team in World Rugby – and we should be happy with them and for them!!

We should be allowed, just for a while, merely to wave the Springbok Flag – to enjoy victory – to compliment everyone involved in Springbok Rugby!! Go Bokke! Viva Springbok Supporters! May your blood be Green!!!
