The Arrive Alive website received this question via an email:

“I have family in South Africa and the question was raised recently, of what to do when it really is essential that a person has their Driver’s Licence withdrawn.

What are the formal steps that need to be taken?”

Our Experts provided the correct answer:

“Section 25 of the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 determines that the MEC can withdraw a licence.

You must contact the Provincial Department of Transport of the province in which the person lives who will take the necessary steps to withdraw the licence.”
