Hotels and Restaurants do more for Tourism Satisfaction!

We often complain about the slightest bit of poor service delivery – but do we share our positive experiences? I have decided to share a bit of stunning service witnessed during the past week!!

I attended a few meetings last week in Johannesburg and stayed at the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton. I was accompanied by a colleague and we were fortunate to enjoy the best of accommodation Johannesburg has to offer! On Thursday evening we decided to enjoy supper at the well-known Bull Run Restaurant adjacent to the Balalaika. This Restaurant is well known amongst all visiting airline staff, and pretty air hostesses are a frequent and welcome sight!

As we were enjoying some top quality steak, the foreign guests to my right had the unfortunate mishap of pushing over a bottle of red wine. About a quarter of the bottle ended up on the one male guest and some on a sweater of a female guest. This sweater was earlier placed on a chair next to the table.

I was rather impressed with the professionalism displayed by the personnel following this unfortunate incident. The three guests were immediately moved to another table to our left and presented with a complimentary bottle of red wine from the Bull Run. The waiter [or “broker” as waiters at the Bull Run are referred to on their name plates], Sipho and another waitress offered to have the sweater cleaned and had it taken to the Balalaika for cleaning. The table and floor were cleaned within minutes!

I observed the facial expressions of these and other guests and can confirm that there was much appreciation for the professional service rendered!

I am pleased to have witnessed this example of good service delivery! This is one small example of how every South African citizen can contribute towards making South Africa an even better tourist destination!!
