Netcare 911 was called to an industrial accident in the Pinetown area. A worker was repairing a concrete mixer and when he tried to test it he slipped and his leg was caught in the blades of the machine causing a partial amputation.
Fortunately the Netcare helicopter with a trauma team was available and immediately flew to assist the ground crew to stabilise the patient and fly him to the Netcare St Augustine’s hospital for further treatment.With a limb so severely damaged time is always a critical factor, and the sooner the patient gets to a facility that has the capability to do such surgery, the greater the chance of saving such a limb.
