45 People injured in bus accident near Pietermaritzburg

This morning 45 people were injured when a department of correctional services bus lost control on the N3 south in the Balgowen area. It is believed that the bus was on route from Newcastle to Pietermaritzburg when the driver lost control, overturned and came to rest in a grass area next to the road.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 EMRS and other private services had there hands full to try and stabilise the 45 seriously injured people. With the rainy and cold conditions paramedics had to try and get the patients stabilised and out of the whether to prevent them from any further complications like hypothermia.

Ambulances from Pinetown and Durban had to be sent to assist with transferring all the patients to hospitals in Pietermaritzburg.

The accident is being investigated by the Collision unit from Pietermaritzburg.
