Blood donations needed urgently

Donors are urged to take time out of their busy schedules to save a life Currently, SANBS had less than two-days blood stock nationally and the situation could be worse if current Group O blood donors did not come forward to give blood, the service said today.

The situation was exacerbated by a late flu epidemic which had negatively affected blood collections.

Blood donors had to be between the ages of 16 and 65, weigh more than 50 kg, lead a sexually safe lifestyle, and be in good health.

Donors could donate every two months (eight weeks or 56 days) as long as they were feeling well.

“Donors are urged to take time out of their busy schedules to save a life”, SANBS said in a statement.
