Seventeen schoolchildren and a police station commissioner were injured in an accident on the N2 near Durban International Airport on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

“The robots in the area were not working, the minibus taxi which had 17 children and the Ford Focus that was driven by the commissioner collided,” said Captain Khephu Ndlovu.

Ndlovu said the minibus taxi was taking the children to school. He did not know their ages.

The policeman was the station commissioner at the Port of Safety and Security in the Durban Port.

“The children received minor injuries but the driver of the minibus taxi had serious injuries.

“The station commissioner and the driver were taken to hospital,” said Ndlovu.

He said the schoolchildren were all treated on the scene of the accident.
