Female driver seriously injured on N2 near Durban Airport

A female driver was seriously injured on the N2 South near the Airport on Saturday night. She swerved to avoid a pedestrian running across the road, lost control of her vehicle rolled and came to rest in thick bush and marsh land.

When the Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on scene the driver was trapped in the vehicle. Not only did they have to contend with the dangers of a vehicle that is laying on its side on a an embankment , but we also had to contend with an intoxicated man that was trying to gain access to the vehicle.

Local tow truck drivers fortunately arrived on the scene within minutes and assisted paramedics with a winch to stabilise the vehicle before they could gain access to the patient.

The female driver was immobilised on a specialised stretcher to prevent further injuries. They had to lift the patient out of the vehicle and carry her through the dense soggy bush to the nearby ambulance .

After the patient was stabilised she was transported to the Netcare Kingsway hospital for further treatment .
