Two seriously injured when car leaves road in Chatsworth

Two people were seriously injured when the car they were travelling on the M1 (Higgenson Highway) near Moorton, Chatsworth, late on Friday night.

Netcare 911 Paramedics responded to the accident scene and found that the driver of a Renault hatchback had allegedly swerved to avoid a pedestrian walking in the road way, and thereafter lost control of his car, colliding with the roadside barrier. The vehicle rolled repeatedly down a steep embankment and came to rest on it’s roof on railway lines below.

Paramedics and EThekwini fire-fighters freed the injured from the mangled wreckage of their vehicle, stabilising them near the railway lines before they were carefully carried through dense brush to waiting emergency service vehicles.
The wounded brother and sister were transported to Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital in Durban, by ambulances for further medical care.

Transnet officials and fire-fighters closed the railway lines while paramedics evacuated the injured. Delays are expected while the vehicle is recovered.
