A family of four was lucky to avoid injury when the car they were travelling in slammed into an out of control vehicle on the M1 Higginson Highway near the Bay view off-ramp, Chatsworth, Durban, in the early hours of Saturday morning. Two men, who had been entrapped in the crumpled remains of their car, were seriously injured in the collision.
It is thought that the family had been travelling west on the M1 when a car, headed east, veered violently from the roadway and collided with the roadside Armco barrier. The barrier deflected the vehicle back into the roadway and through the grassed centre median into oncoming traffic.
Netcare 911 Paramedics assisted EThekwini Metro fire-fighters to cut the wounded free from the car. They were treated and stabilised at the scene before they were transported by ambulance to area hospitals for further medical care.
