An elderly farm worker was driving a tractor along a farm road in the Lower Illovo area this afternoon . It appears that he lost control and plunged some 4 meters down an embankment where the tractor came to rest on its side in a river bed .
Fellow farm workers noticed the accident and raced to the mans rescue. They had to use a winch to lift the tractor off the driver as his body was pinned under the roll cage. His co – workers were euphoric when they got him out and he was still breathing. Although the advanced life support paramedics and rescue unit from Netcare 911 arrived within minutes of the call, the patient sadly died before their arrival due to the extensive internal injuries that he had sustained .
The case will be investigated by the SAPS.
