A five-year-old boy was critically injured when he was struck by a bakkie on Durban’s Booth Road shortly after 4 pm on Friday afternoon. It is thought that the boy had run into the road in an effort to retrieve a spinning top which had been thrown between two stationary trucks. The boy ran past the trucks and into traffic.

When Netcare 911 Paramedics arrived at the scene they found the wounded boy lying prostrate at the roadside with a large crowd of onlookers gathered around him. The child sustained lower limb fractures and possible head and spinal injuries. He was stabilised by advanced life support paramedics at the scene before he was transported to King Edward VIII by Netcare 911 ambulance.

He is believed to be in a critical but stable condition.
