Renowned Afrikaans gospel singer Irene van Wyk died in a car accident after she apparently lost control of her vehicle and collided head-on with a truck on Monday.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Miranda Stoltz, the accident occurred on the Delmas-Pretoria road.
“According to witnesses, she lost control of her vehicle and there was a head-on collision with a truck. She was certified dead on the scene of the accident and her body was taken to the Bronkhorstspruit mortuary.”
Van Wyk is reported to have been badly injured in the accident, which was described as “horrifying” by police officers. Stoltz said the truck driver was not injured and that a case of culpable homicide had been opened at the Welbekend police station. No one had been arrested.
