Man drowns in surf off Durban

The body of an unknown man was pulled from the surf near Rachel Finlayson Pools, Durban by police and paramedics this evening.

Circumstances surrounding the man’s death are vague, and it is unknown as to whether he jumped from the pier or was forcefully coerced.

The Police’s Search and Rescue Unit and Netcare 911 Paramedics responded to the scene. Unit commander Captain Troy Allison donned diving gear and took to the water. With the help of officers and paramedics, the man’s body was heaved ashore.

Thought to be in his early twenties, the man was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.
