Mining Safety starts at Home!

moolmans-3

It is our pleasure to provide an update on the Safety Campaign by Moolmans Mining:

On the 30th of September 09, Arrive Alive posters were put up on notice boards in the shift change, workshop and office areas at the Moolmans Sishen Project Site. These posters serve as a constant reminder of the dangers that exist on public roads and the results of drunken driving and speeding.

Posters displaying well known people that have been lost to road accidents and road rage incidents were also put up. Celebrities like Tebogo Malingoana and soccer star Gift Leremi, are amongst South Africa’s famous people who have died on our roads.

The deaths of these men left voids in professional soccer league and arts and culture. So too voids were left in the families of these men. The aim is to allow our workers to realize that voids will be left in the company as well as their families should they drive or act recklessly on our public roads.

On the 1st of October 2009, Moolmans marched outside the mine towards the Seseng-Kathu road. They were accompanied by two banners displaying the slogan of the Safety @ Home Campaign. The Company slogan of “HOME WITHOUT HARM EVERYONE EVERYDAY”, was modified to “MOOLMANS, DRIVING SAFETY HOME, DRIVING HOME SAFELY” for this campaign.

The banners were put in place facing Kumba Iron Ore Mine to remind all the mine and contracting employees to drive home safely and be safe at home. A short speech was given to the workforce attending the ceremony by Contracts Manager, Stephan Griessel, and was sent back to the mine with a cool drink in hand.
