A 50 year old female is in a critical condition after being hit by two trains this morning at around 09h00.
Exact details of the accident is still unknown, however it is believed that the lady was trying to cross the railway lines on the Irene bridge where it runs across Nellmapius road. A train knocked her off her feet and she landed on the railway lines with slight injuries , security guards came to her assistance and called for the Netcare 911 paramedics.
Paramedics arrived on scene and was about 20 meters away from her when they noticed a train coming from the opposite direction, they watched helplessly as the train ran over part of her body.
Emergency personnel ran towards the body that was now lying on the stones next to the railway lines expecting the worst. They were pleasantly surprised to find her still alive; she had sustained an amputation of the one leg and multiple injuries to the rest of her body and was in a critical condition.Paramedics from Netcare 911 worked fervently to stabilize the elderly lady before transporting her to the Tembisa hospital for further treatment.
