Worker falls down cliff at Umtumvuna

A female worker sustained serious injuries after falling approximately 30 meters down a cliff in the Umtumvuna Nature reserve on the Natal south coast this afternoon. It is believed that the woman was working and for some unknown reason slipped and fell down the cliff .

SAPS search and rescue as well as the paramedics from Netcare 911 were called to the scene. They had to hike about 4 kilometres through dense bush and across soggy ground to reach the patient. When they got to her she was in a serious condition. Realising that time is of the essence and with the weather closing in, a military helicopter was called to hoist the patient out to the road level where an ambulance was waiting to transport her to the Netcare Margate hospital for further treatment.
