2 year old dies in family pool in Alberton

A two year old drowned in a swimming pool at their Alberton residence Tuesday afternoon afternoon just after 17h00. Although exact details are still speculative, it is purported that the toddler went missing and when family members went looking for him they were faced with absolute tragedy.

The child was found at the bottom of the pool and a family member had to dive in and pull the child out of the water. Netcare 911 was contacted and while paramedics were mobile to the scene the controller stayed on the line and gave the family instruction on how to perform CPR.

Within minutes the advanced life support paramedic and his team arrived. They worked fervently for over an hour to try and revive the child, but sadly the little boy was declared dead on scene.

Paramedics want to urge people to have pool nets fitted and have a security fence erected to prevent children from entering the pool area without the supervision of adults.
