20 injured in taxi accident on N1

allendale-road-2

20 people were injured in a taxi accident on the N1 direction Johannesburg just before the Allendale road turn off at around 06h45 this morning. Exact details are still speculative, however it is purported that the taxi, a Toyota Quantum ,was traveling along the N1 when the rear left wheel burst.

The taxi first smashed into the concrete barriers on the left side of the highway then hurtled across the road and crashed into the right had side barriers before overturning. The vehicle kept rolling for about one hundred meters down the highway before coming to rest on its side in the centre lane of the highway.

Passengers clambered out of the mangled wreckage, some of them with the help of there fellow passengers and made their way to the side of the road. Paramedics arrived on scene to find absolute carnage, and after triaging the scene they found that 3 of the passengers were critically injured, 10 had sustained serious injuries and miraculously 7 escaped with only minor injuries.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 and the provincial ambulance service worked fervently to stabilize all the wounded and then transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.
